Answer to Dream!! Version 1.0
Thank you for reading through Answer to Dream!! What did you think? Did you enjoy yourself?
I went into writing this story with no expectations in particular. At the outset, all I really wanted to do was write something about my dreams on the computer for the fun of it. I wanted to prevent the relationships and memories I made inside those dreams from disappearing into the ether. I wanted to consider them real and precious to me, even if they never truly existed.
Scribbling an outline, I tried to see how it aligned with my interests and what I had the skill to do. At first, I thought about making a light novel in the vein of Kino's Journey, but felt the medium of visual novels might give me more freedom, for better or for worse. I chose and stuck to NVL because of an inspiration from Hotel Ergriffen.
I made short additions here and there between August and November before I felt I had enough to share with some friends and ask for their advice. I'm a nervous and sensitive human being who wanted to ask for more help from others, but I suppose that will have to wait for the next Creation when my courage can be mustered.
The script was 95% finalized that December, and I spent the rest of my time drawing and programming. Due to time constraints and a concern that I should not take too long to finish, I used some old drawings and writing verbatim while trying to make it fit with the story. Maybe you can think of it positively as a charm point.
Music is not my strong suit whatsoever, so I was able to find among the musicians I already like those who seemed okay towards incorporating their things into one's own creations. I was too shy to talk with anyone up front, so all I can give is an indirect thank you and point you towards their SNS.
From this perspective, it's a little overwhelming to tell what I've really made and how others or my future self might see it. I've become so accustomed to my own company that I can't tell if I'm being excessive in any particular way. I'm sure with time I'll be able to pick up the pieces and get a better idea.
My sleep schedule hasn't been great the past few years, and I've been leaving from the world more and more. I hope somehow I can consider this VN a promise that the stories I've made won't die if I enter into reality again. Is that irrational?
As with my other works, I hid a few secrets inside of the game's code for those willing to search. Maybe you will be able to find them if you are sleuthy enough?
Psst! Try looking around in any clickable menus!
Anyway, that's most of what I felt I needed to say. Again, thank you for reading.
May we meet again someday. Somewhere.
